Graduate Profile: Corey Williams, DTS
My name is Corey Williams and I currently live in Las Vegas, NV. I have had the opportunity to live in several places such as Little Rock, Arkansas, Saint Martin, French West Indies, and Kelowna, British Columbia. I have been married to Lory for the last 24 years. We have five children ranging from 7 months to 23 years old.
In my early 20’s, my mother forced me to consider the state of my soul. In my rebellion I responded by attempting to prove that the Bible was false and Christianity was nothing more than a man-made religion used to subjugate black Americans. But God, in his sovereignty, used my rebellion as a way that lead me to the Scriptures where he caused me to hear the gospel, repent and believe.
Since then, my family attended several churches in our town, eventually leaving each one of them. With each successive departure my desire to better understand God, the Christian faith, and the Scriptures grew more and more. I was finally introduced to the doctrines of grace and began looking for a church that believed the same.
9 years ago, we began attending First Baptist Church of the Lakes and have been there ever since. I currently serve as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher. I owe a debt of gratitude to the Pastors at First Baptist. As Rolo Bernales, John Pretlove, Ed Romero and Dean Lavell desired to see the members under their care grow in maturity, knowledge of God and conformity to Christ, they partnered with RBS several years ago, which opened the door for me to pursue more formal theological training without having to uproot my family and leave the church.
The academic standards at RBS are rigorous and challenging. Dr Gonzales and the staff take seriously their goal to assist the church with the task of training gospel laborers. I thank God for Dr. Gonzales and the rest of the staff at the seminary. He used them to further my growth and progress in the Lord.
There were several moments when quitting RBS seemed like the best option, but Lory, my wife, was especially supportive, by encouraging me to continue my studies. Additionally, I would like to thank the members of First Baptist of the Lakes, Pablo & Anita Navarro, Pastor Ron Stansfield, Pastor Allen Stansbury, my parents Ed & Nina Jordan and Gertrude Simmons for their prayers and support.
